“TTIP must not jeopardise the quality of our food”
One of Germany’s biggest grocery chains, the REWE group, is concerned about the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). “For decades, the REWE group has contributed to the implementation of the high food standards in which the consumers trust today. We are deeply concerned that European quality as well as social standards could be lowered.” said Alain Caparros, chairman of the REWE group.
The group demands of the German Members of the European Parliament to demand for a transparent decision-making process. This includes an early involvement of the elected representatives in the European Parliament, an extensive consultation with the local agricultural sector, representatives of environmental as well as consumer protection organizations. The REWE group asks the MEPs to defend the high food standards in the European committees.
